Course Content

The Kanban Method is a management method to improve service delivery, catalyse improvements and evolve a business to be “fit for purpose”. In this class, we will cover simple concepts that are powerful in helping you organise, understand and manage your work.

You will learn how to design a Kanban system and initiate evolutionary change with Kanban.

You will learn the basic concepts of flow, pull, and collaborative improvement. You will also learn how to become faster and more responsive through better risk management and governance. You will gain practical insights on how to understand your systems of work so that you can implement or improve Kanban within your organisation.

Learning Objectives

Understand the basics, motivation, and benefits of The Kanban Method.
Experience flow in a simulation of a Kanban system.
Learn how to run the Kanban meetings to focus on the flow of work and allow the team to organise around it
Build and design a Kanban system (that you can use the next day) using the STATIK approach.
Become faster and more responsive, with better risk management and governance
Understand “Pull” systems and how they help reduce overburdening
Learn how to use key metrics such as Lead Time, Run Charts, and Cumulative Flow Diagrams to make continuous improvements.

Prerequisites

There are no formal pre-requisites for this course however some familiarity with Agile methods would be helpful and students are expected to complete the pre-course reading required.
